JOIN ATHLETES' WELCOME HOME CELEBRATION

Olympic fans of all ages are invited to a special celebration to congratulate and welcome home Australia’s Olympic heroes.

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister Sport, Stuart Ayres said the 29 August event would provide an opportunity for the public to shake hands with more than 115 Olympic athletes and medallists from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

“Our returning athletes have worked tirelessly throughout the 2016 Games and are an absolute inspiration to young athletes across the nation,” Mr Ayres said.

“I encourage Olympic fans to come down to the Sydney Opera House on Monday in the Aussie green and gold to celebrate the rising stars of the future and thank our retiring greats.”

Crowds will be treated to interactive live entertainment from Brazilian dance ensemble Rhythm Brazil, and – in honour of Tokyo 2020 – Japanese drumming group Toko Ton.

The event will take place on Monday 29 August from 12:30pm-1pm at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on the Monumental Steps. Click here for further information.

Come along and congratulate our athletes on their achievements in Rio 2016 at this free public event.

Plus many more!

Athletes and medalists from across Australia will be officially welcomed home by NSW Premier Mike Baird, Lord Mayor Clover Moore and AOC Chef de Mission Kitty Chiller in a celebration at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt.

PERFORMANCES

To celebrate and capture the energy from Rio 2016, there will be authentic dancers and drummers performing from RHYTHM BRAZIL.

And to inspire us for Tokyo 2020, Toko-ton will perform a traditional Japanese energetic art form called ‘Wadaiko’ involving a mix of movement, rhythm and Japanese drumming.
