Vienna will welcome spring 2014 with a busy schedule of musical events

The St John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach, Missa Solemnis by Ludwig van Beethoven and Russian choirs performing sacred music are just some of the highlights of OsterKlang 2014. Throughout this eight-day festival audiences will be treated to spellbinding music performed by top companies at the Theater an der Wien and a range of other locations in the capital, including the Konzerthaus and the Minoritenkirche. The festival reaches a crescendo with the Spring in Vienna concert at the Musikverein. The Wiener Symphoniker under Simone Young will be performing works by various composers including Franz Schubert, Richard Wagner, Johann Strauss the younger and Franz Lehár, with the tenor Johan Botha in a starring role.

The annual Summer Night’s Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the major highlights of the Viennese concert calendar. On May 29, 2014 the Vienna Philharmonic will give a classical music masterclass in front of one of the Austrian capital’s best loved landmarks – free of charge. Christoph Eschenbach is taking up the baton for the 2014 event which features star pianist Lang Lang as soloist. The Vienna Festivalfrom May 9 to June 15, 2014 has a packed program in store: 37 productions from 22 countries, including two world premieres, three new productions and two European premieres. Highlights include Michael Haneke’s Madrid interpretation of Così fan tutte and concerts by German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk at the Burgtheater.
