Another Round for V8 Supercar Championship Series for NSW

Another round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series for 2014, to be held at Sydney Motorsport Park, Eastern Creek from 22-24 August 2014.

“This new round at Sydney Motorsport Park follows the NSW Government’s recent success in securing the Grand Finale round at Sydney Olympic Park - The Sydney 500 – for the next three years,” Deputy Premier and Acting Minister for Tourism and Major Events Andrew Stoner said.

“The new Sydney Motorsport Park event is expected to attract more than 15,000 V8 motorsport fans from all over the country and within NSW to visit Western Sydney over the three days of the event to experience the thrill of V8 Supercar racing.

“Securing another round of V8 Supercar racing for NSW strengthens the Government’s commitment to the development of an outstanding events calendar and recognises the important role of Western Sydney in driving visitation to the State.

“Recently, my colleague Minister Souris announced a new deal to host the Grand Finale round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series and a fan day for enthusiasts.

“That agreement for the Sydney 500, to be held at Sydney’s Olympic Park and the V8 Supercar Test Day at Motorsport Park, Eastern Creek, runs for the next three years (until 2016) with an option for an extra two years, providing a multitude of motorsports fans with a wonderful experience.

“This alone is expected to attract more than 5,000 interstate and international visitors and 15,000 intrastate visitors and, over the three years, bring an estimated $50 million to our State. It will also be seen by millions of people throughout Australia and the world thanks to a live broadcast by Channel 7,” added Mr Stoner.

“Together with the Bathurst 1000, NSW now has a trifecta of the most impressive line-up of motorsport events in the country.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Gabrielle Upton, said this latest round for the V8 Supercar Championship Series is a significant addition to the NSW sporting calendar.

“Securing this for Sydney Motorsport Park recognises the NSW Government’s commitment to this outstanding motorsport venue,” Ms Upton said.

“Furthermore, staging another new event in the heart of Western Sydney for the next year is a win for the fans and also the NSW economy,” Ms Upton said.

V8 CEO James Warburton said: “We are delighted to stage three V8 Supercar Motorsport events in NSW; in Bathurst, Sydney Olympic Park and Sydney Motorsport Park, providing a feast of V8 motorsport and family-friendly entertainment for all fans here in NSW”.
